Interview with Mickal Sanneh
1. When were you an active member of BI Case Teams and at which campus did you study?
I was an active member in the school year of 23/24 while I studied at campus Oslo.
2. Why did you decide to join BI Case Teams?
I got the inspiration to join BI Case Teams from a fellow student, Berge Bakken, who participated in BI Case Teams the year before me. I am very fond of complex problems and collaborating with a group to solve them. I also heard from Berge that the students participating in Case Teams are very talented and engaged, something that inspires me a lot.
3. What was the name of your case team(s) and what did you do to create a good team dynamic?
I was a part of Deep Blue Consulting when competing internationally. The team was very capable in problem solving but we had different strengths as individuals. Therefore, we had dedicated roles based on our experience and interests. It made it easy to collaborate and tasks weas easily distributed when solving cases.
4. Did you have a specific role in your team?
I mostly worked with the situation analysis and strategy. When needed I helped with finances.
5. Which case competitions did you take part in (national and international)?
BI National Case Competition 2023 and University of Navarra International Case Competition (UNICC) 2024.
6. What is your best memory from your case journey at BI?
Our trip to UNICC was the highlight of my case journey. Meeting students from all over the world and solving cases for large international corporations was an amazing experience.
7. What are your top three takeaways from case training and competitions?
Good preparations in advance makes it a lot easier to solve the cases in a good way.
Solve cases, present, repeat. It takes some training to become a case master.
Be social. BI Case Teams is a very diverse and social group where you get to make friends from all study programs at BI and other universities all over the world.
8. What skills did you learn from participating in case which were relevant to your development/career and how?
Our workshops on how to solve cases and how to solve problems in a structured was really helped me get better at identifying and solving problems in both an academic and professional setting. I also learned a lot about structuring a presentation and my presentations skills improved. I will utilize these experiences to the max when I start my master degree at CBS this fall.
9. Do you have any advice to students who are curious about BI Case Teams?
Take this great opportunity to be part of a professional and inspiring team of students from diverse and interesting backgrounds. It will help build your professional network. Case teams hands you an unique opportunity to learn and gain experiences that the “normal” study program don’t present.
