EGOS Colloquium 2024

The theme of this year's European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) Colloquium was “Crossroads for Organizations: Time, Space and People”.

Several members and affiliates of the Nordic Centre for Internet and Society (NCIS) presented their research at the event. From 4th to 6th of July 2024, the annual EGOS Colloquium was held in Milan, Italy, at the University of Milano-Bicocca, making it the 40th edition of the event. The NCIS members were part of sub-theme 62 “(Ir-)Responsible Use of Technologies and the Future of Work: Managerial and Organizational Dilemmas”, organized by Aizhan Tursunbayeva, Luigi Moschera (both at the (University of Naples Parthenope) and Vicenc Fernandez (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya). Over three days, the sub-theme featured 31 presentations on topics such as algorithmic human-resource management, remote work, AI bias and trust in emerging technologies (see here for the full program), offering a unique opportunity for sharing insights, getting feedback, and community building in a friendly and collegial atmosphere.

Papers presented at the event

Yunhao Xiao had a talk on “Internal Communication as A Dynamic Capability: Envisioning Future Organization-Digital Nomad-Technology Relationship” and presented his research on Saturday 8 July. His article centers on digital nomadism and its relation to dynamic capabilities of organizations.

The article was recently published in the British Journal of Industrial Relations and is available open access under the following link.

Meanwhile, Yunhao was the discussant for the paper “Tech in Supply Chains: Truck Drivers' Sensemaking of Using Digital Technologies”, co-authored by Caroline Ruiner, Sarah M. The event provided a platform for exploring a wide range of critical topics in organizational studies, with a particular emphasis on the challenges and opportunities in our increasingly digital world. We look forward to continuing these important discussions and reconnecting at future events.

Thank you to EGOS and the University of Milano-Bicocca for being wonderful hosts and organizing a successful Colloquium!
